How does the HYPE buyback work?
Mechanism: buy-and-hold · Assistance Fund. Assistance Fund buys on Hyperliquid's own HYPE/USDC spot book. From 2026-06-24: exact fills from the exchange's API. Before that: reconstructed from the AF's holdings curve (holders-at-time index over Hyperliquid node data) priced with Hyperliquid's own candles, validated against exact fills on a 37-day overlap (cumulative within 0.23%, weekly pace within 1.8%; single-day bars are approximate). Excluded as non-buybacks: the AF's 1.29M genesis balance and the 6.51M delivered at TGE listing (received with no USDC outflow). Two stretches where the holders index provably froze (its own lastUpdate stalled) are redistributed evenly; the AF's real early-era pattern of pauses and burst buys (Dec 2024, index verified live) is preserved as-is. Cumulative tiles use the AF's on-exchange cost basis. Float model: genesis circulating (333.93M) minus AF holdings; post-TGE unlocks not tracked. Bought tokens are held by the AF, not burned.
